school workshops

"Education is not the filling of the pail but the lighting of the fire."  W.B.Yeats

Our view is that dance in education is about unleashing raw talent.  To this end, our workshops are great for your students' sense of achievement and confidence; we teach groups to work together while creating the space for individuality to blossom.  "We are here to make our students talents shine, no matter what their academic reputation." Kim

WHO ARE WE & WHO ARE YOU?      D2D is a street dance company founded in 1993 to harness and promote the skills of young people. To inspire them with self-confidence and respect for their own achievements. Raw, urban, street talent is what we're about.   You might be a junior school, senior school, college or youth centre.  You are working with children from all academic ranges and would like to reward them, entice them, help tohwem to work in teams, help them to gain confidence in themselves and their school.

WHAT?      D2D offers workshops in schools for girls & boys. These can be a one day, one week or  term project. Your students learn our originally choroegraphed routines in the style of  MTV pop videos, and we also inspire them to dance & choreograph together to produce and perform work of their own.

WHY?    Every young person wishes to be proud of the part they can play in the zeitgeist, and the D2D co wants to help them achieve that sense of pride through dance; encouraging their artistic and social abilities. While our group work is always successful, we are repeatedly delighted at the personal progress of certain individual pupils. These are often individuals who don't shine in other ares, or who may feel that they don't fit in with some of school life, and they find our workshops particularly helpful as it offers them a chance to express themselves outside of the academic arena, and to prove their own talent. The D2D Co is also interested in working with special groups such as the disenchanted, or groups of particular religions, whose guardians may feel that the street scene isn't for them - yet it can be. There is so much potential in so many young people - our aim is to bring that out in each and every one of our students.

HOW?    The format for your school is flexible as we tailor a D2D day to your needs. All we require is use of a school gym or hall (or any large, cleared room without carpet).  Groups of no more than 18 pupils meet for the allotted time and work with one or more D2D Dance Agels. The work will be able to be performed as a show-piece on the day should you wish, or we can leave a plan for your dancers to follow after we've gone.  They can go on to complete or expand the work we have done and then perform it with or without a D2D angel there.  Just use this site to e-mail us and we will call to arrange a more detailed chat about how we could provide a street-dance workshop for your school.
